The last time he swam was our Bangkok trip in Oct 2009. Thereafter he suddenly developed a pool phobia.
He refused to step into the pool or walk in the sea when we were holidaying in Mauritius in Dec 2009. We were very puzzled by his behaviour and we were very sure that he never had any pool accident at all.
I can only deduce that perhaps we indulge him in bath tub time during our staycation last year and also at home. He would always request to play in his baby bath tub every few days and his Daddy would always give in to him.
He felt much secured in a baby tub as compared to a much bigger pool!
I spent time brain washing him by telling him that:
1. A swimming pool is like a big bath tub filled with water
2. Daddy will always be there to hug him and he will never be left alone.
3. His bath tub is only for baby.. boy must go swimming and not swim in a tub!
It took me 3 months to convince him that swimming is safe for him and he finally relented to go swimming at his God Parents place! You can't believe how happy we were as if we strike lottery! We were so worried that he will develop permanent pool phobia!
We allowed him to bring his favourite bath toy to allay his fears..
We are very proud of him for his courage to step into the pool yet again. And it melted my heart when he said to me "Mummy, swimming is ok already, Daddy can hug Dillion in the pool"
