Huai Shan..

I been doing my marketing in the dry market pretty often after sending Dillion to school. I like about dry market here is that I can get my stuffs in smaller quantity.

For e.g. I can just buy 1 or 2 sticks of carrot/celery or a few stalks of vegetables.

And I enjoy making small talk with the meat/veg seller as they tend to share cooking tips with amateur cook like me.

The vegetable auntie seller was telling me to buy or cook Huai Shan a.k.a Fresh Chinese Yam root. Its sweet to use for soup or steam chicken.

I was sceptical at first because it look so very foreign to me. It like a white wood covered in saw dust. So I googled about it and found out the goodness about it.

The Auntie told me to wear a gloves or use a plastic bag when handling it as its quite slimy and can make our hands itch. To use a vegetable peeler to peel the skin.

For fast soup base (for 2 person) .. this is what I did
1 small slice of Huai Shan (about 5 cm long)
Few slices of Carrots
1 slice of Chicken breast

Bring to boil for 15-20 minutes and the soup turn out to be very sweet!
I use this soup base for noodles. The Huai Shan is tasteless after cooking.

For my info .. can read here
