Teething woes..

I think Dillion is cutting out 4 teeth at a time that he is giving us endless sleepless nights.

Lately he prefer to sleep the horizontal position on our bed thus the we somehow formed a 'n' formation on the bed.
Hence in the middle of the night he would stuffed his head underneath my pillow like a bulldozer and kick his Daddy's face on the other end.
Both of us gets disturbed and is affecting Kevin as well as sometimes he gets not enough sleep when he needs to wake up early for his work.

Last night D was whimpering a lot during his bed time and I applied Dentinox on his Pigeon's toothbrush which somehow worked as he kept brushing and gumming it!

It comfort him till he fell asleep.

Night feeding..

For the past few days, Dillion had been waking up at unearthly hours asking for "neh neh" (milk)!!

Last week, he woke up at 3-4 ish am turning 360 degrees on the bed disrupting our sleep then chant "Da Da, Ma ma.. Neh Neh neh neh" ..
Admit we are both lousy and lazy parents and we chose to ignore his pleas hoping he would just fall back to sleep.
We were wrong and he rant till we cave in and made milk for him.

Past few days.. was slightly better and he woke up at 6am for milk. Then fall back to sleep with us.

We were puzzled and not sure why the sudden growth spurt in him. We suspect that he may be waken up due to the heat as we sleep with the fan on.

OR

He may be teething as I spotted his 'Dracula' teeth cutting out from his upper gums.

With this.. it made his daily schedule turned upside down :(

This week happenings.. Fever strikes!!!!

Mon
We were out at Junction 8 on Mon evening when I felt D's forehead was warm. Fed him paracetamol and he did not want his last milk feed.

Tue
Kevin took leave and we brought D to the GP. Fever was moderate for the whole day. No appetite for milk at all but was able to take his solids. Have to spoon feed him water in order to keep him hydrate.

D was in his usual self and not restless at all. Thank God.

Wed
Kevin took half day leave to help me out as both of us did not have enough sleep.
Fever gone down finally and he recovered.
Finally able to drink his 1st and last milk feed.

Thurs & Fri
Home alone with the boy as Daddy has to work. It was tough handling D as he turned super sticky to me at home.
Clinging on to me like a kola when he wakes up in the morning and after his nap.
Refused to be put down and even need me to accompany him to watch his Barney.
Ended up he sat on the kitchen floor watching me cook his meals.
Milk appetite back to normal but still rejecting his afternoon milk feed.

Fever
After D's fever episode in June, Kevin and I are better prepared and handled the situation pretty well.
We fed paracetamol diligently for every 3 hours which help to bring down his fever fast.
And I did not fret over D's poor appetite and did not force him to eat or drink.
GP did advise that due to his molar eruptions, he may not want to drink his milk as its painful having to suck the teat.

Stickiness
We do not know why Dillion became so sticky to us at home that I told Kevin that D is like a leech at home.. clinging on to me.
Photo taken using my laptop's web cam when i had to accompany him to watch his Barney:

D laid on my legs (refusing to let me go to the kitchen to prepare his meals)for half and hour whilst watching his Barney.. which is very rare of him as he will normally moves around the house, messing things up.

Change in preferences & behavioural

I realised that ever since Dillion hit the half-way mark to 2year old..there had been some changes in his food preferences and his behavioural. Coupled with his molar eruptions, Terrible 2 Syndrome.. yada yada.. It been a hell of time with him, understanding his needs, wants, whine, tantrums..

Food preferences
I'm disappointed that my once non-fussy boy has start to show dislike for some food like for instance:
Cheese, tomatoes and apple slices (he is ok with pureed apple)
In order to let him have added calcium, i had to add cheese into his oatmeal with pureed apple or spread jam over the cheese cube on his bread.

Eating habit
Recently, D been eating much lesser. Sometimes he only manage to finish half a bowl or porridge and will spit out when he is full instead of clamming his mouth like he used to.
And is driving me up the wall because its messy.. I hope that this is poor appetite due to teething.

Potty training
D starting to protest when i bring him to his potty during diaper change. He cried, struggled.. simply refused to sit. He will only do so when I catch him in better mood.

Refusal
He shake his head whenever we say Bath time, wash face, brush teeth.. He will whine and we have to everything fast. And he will cling on to us during shower which puzzled us as he used to love bathing.

Possession of things
He wants to grab hold of things he sees and refused to get distracted by other stuffs. He ends up throwing tantrums and won't stop crying until he gets it.

Sleepless nights
D been waking up crying for past few nights due to teething and making us so zombified every morning due to lack of sleep. And its always a guessing game on whom he wants us to carry. If he prefer Daddy then he would not allow mummy to take over and vice versa.

We hope this is just a phase and once all his teeth are out, our lives will be back to normal.
Dealing and handling a child's tantrums and meltdowns is a test of our patient and a learning experience for us.
We have scolded, beat his hands, let him cry it out for we hope that we can get the Terrible Two syndrome over .. but I read that we still have to deal with Terrible Three! *GOOD GRIEF*

D's Tooth Chart..

Dillion's upper molars has started to errupt which i suppose should be the same time as his lower molars.

He now has 12 teeth in total. But the cuspid is still missing in action!

Molar..

Whilst brushing D's teeth.. i felt something hard on his gum and realised that his molar is cutting out on his left and right of his lower gum!

Yippe.. that will be his 9th & 10th teeth.

Meanwhile, gave him Pigeon toothbrush to massage his gum:

Proper dental care..

Starting this week, I had started proper dental care for Dillion by brushing his teeth after his last milk feed with First Teeth A Natural Enzyme Baby Toothpaste and with their finger brush.

Not easy as sometimes, D would not allow me to pry open his mouth. Anyway incase you are wondering.. this toothpaste is Totally Safe if Swallowed.

Yeap.. i tasted it.. it taste fruity!

Dillion's 6th tooth- lower right lateral incisor has finally erupted.. after many antagonising days of crankiness and sleepless nights.

Lateral tooth irritations..

Lateral tooth eruptions definitely affect Dillion and of course the parents are part of the sufferings too!
Last saturday night, D was crying almost every hour from 1 to 8am. Its not for milk feed as i can distinguished his cry as discomfort. Its scary as nothing we can do help him ease the pain.
He would cry for 10-15min then after walking him around the room, he drift back to sleep then would repeat the same crying cycle an hour later.

Anyway, my cousin doctor told me to give him paracetamol at night (if he is still in discomfort). We did and he woke up crying once on sunday & monday night.

I wonder how long this teething episode will affect him as he is a super cranky and whining baby nowadays.. and i hope it will fast erupt and let him get it over and done soon!

New tooth- Lateral Incisor..

One of the reasons for causing Dillion to fall ill and to be ultra cranky was due to his Upper Lateral Incisor cutting out of his gum which i spotted TODAY!

I am very surprised as his central incisor had just erupted 2 weeks ago. And i been applying Dentinox deligently and he definitely love the gel!

Walker..

I'm trying to rekindle Dillion's interest in using the walker. He used to brawl his lungs out whenever i place his legs in. The only way is to entice my boy with food then he will obliged!

Meanwhile.. managed to take a shot of his upper incisor teeth cutting out! Please excuse his drool..

Upper teeth eruption..

I spotted two central incisor erupting from his upper teeth. Thanks to tooth fairy for answering my prayers to let Dillion have a couple more teeth!!

I have started him on brushing but with only 2 pathetic teeth is kinda hard. But still need to let him get used to it.

You know sometimes people around me were surprised that D is already 1year old as he can't walk and only got 2 teeth and i still slinging him like a koala!

For my reference:

Tip of incisor..

This is a rare shot taken when Dillion was almost falling asleep. He always refuse to let me pry open his mouth and take a shot of his teeth..

I can finally see a tip of D's pearlie cutting through his gum! Using Dentinox Teething Gel to numb the gum.

Teething woes

Dillion seem to be showing sign of teething (finally!)as i felt something hard on his central incisor. Been waiting for him to cut a tooth for very long time as he is coming to 1 year old and still toothless.

Anyway.. i can sense that he is not feeling so good as he he just recovered from his flu. He been cranky and sticky to us. When he need to be carried, he will whine or cry till tears start rolling down.

Last night, he woke up at 7am, crying so badly and refused to be put down and would not stop crying even after a milk feed. Feeling so frustrated over a crying baby whom cannot talk and we as a parents can't help him to relieve his pain except to apply teething gel, teething toys and shower more TLC on him.

Since he won't wanna go back to sleep.. i got changed and bought him to the wet market alone and he was back to his cheery mood then as we walked to the bus stop. Sigh.. this boy has got my genes, can't stay at home.
