Valuable lessons/tips on Fever ..

A few tips on fever management which i picked up from my cousin doctor and a helpful nurse from TMC and for my future reference

Care:
1. Give right dosage of medicine based on your child's weight
2. Check their hands and legs for rashes
3. Sponge and check their temperature regularly
4. Dress light and on air-con
5. We can still bath them

Medicine:
~To give Paracetamol every 4hourly instead of the normal 6hourly interval.
~Give Nurafen if fever peaks 38.5 & above at a 6 hour interval.
~Which means we must alternate between Para & Nura
~Even if fever falls to normal range during the day, we must adhere to 4hour interval of Paracetamol to ensure fever goes down completely
~Must not miss a single Para feed and to wake up in middle of night to monitor and give Para.

Suppository- not advisable for the moment as it may causes side effect eventhough its best remedy

Food:
Its normal that our child not to have appetite for their favourite meal and even milk. Thus not a cause of concern
Leave them alone if they reject food.
Not neccessary to feed them water after medicine for water may even cause vomiting
However we must ensure they eat once they recover.

Vomiting:
Fever causes vomiting. Sometimes what they consume be it a small mouthful of water will cause vomiting.
If they continue to vomit after recover from fever , means they have stomach/gastric flu.

After care:
If fever persist after 2-3days, to see a doctor again or go straight to hospital during office hours in order to do a blood test

========================================
on TMC outpatient service
I'm glad that we made the right choice of going to TMC instead of KKH as we may have to wait x hours to see a doctor at KKH. Anyhow, KKH will stil be the ultimate choice if a child need to be warded for further tests.
At TMC, we saw a doctor 5min after registering.
Cost of midnight medical charge:
$82
